CLIVE, Iowa — A central Iowa man said he and his wife had dramatically different reactions to his $500,000 lottery win.
Lancaster's wife, Linda, concurred.
"I had chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations — the works!" she said with a laugh.
Lancaster, 78, of Norwalk, won the first top prize in the Iowa Lottery's "500X" scratch game. The big win came on a ticket he bought at Casey's, 5240 Cumming Ave. in Cumming.
"I went out to the parking lot to scratch it," he said. "I had to look a couple of times before I was sure it was right. So I scanned it on my phone, and it came right up."
He took the ticket home and handed it to Linda without a word.
"I looked at him and he just shook his head yes," she said. "I called all the family. He was just laid back."
Lancaster said he and his wife plan to save their winnings for now while they formulate a plan.
"We'll probably put it in the bank for a while before we figure it out," he said.
